WatchTheLimit is a fast-paced, chaotic drinking game for 2–6 players. Everyone controls a single car together.
Your goal is simple: Don't reach or exceed a score of 100! Each card changes the shared score. If the limit is reached or exceeded, the car crashes — and someone drinks.
The starting score is 0
Each player holds 4 cards
One card is played per turn
The score is changed according to the card played
Immediately draw back to 4 cards after playing, otherwise you have to take 1 penalty sip
Score exactly 100:
You must chug your drink and may choose another player who also has to chug.
Score over 100:
Only you lose and must chug your drink.
Empty draw pile:
If the draw pile is empty, the first player without cards in hand loses. Already played cards are not reshuffled.
After each turn, the current score must be called out aloud (e.g., "43!", "94!"). Recalculating based on already played cards is not allowed.
Score not known:
Drink 3 penalty sips, then the score may be stated.
No one knows the score:
ALL players drink 3 penalty sips. Then, a joint decision is made on what score to continue playing with.
Color scheme:
Not game-deciding, but helps remember played cards and enhances the road trip feeling. Blue takes you through the streets of Paris, Green to Rio de Janeiro, Orange across the highways of the USA, and Pink through the neon-lit nights of Japan.
The number is added directly to the score. For the numbers 6 and 9, see the speedometer as your guide - if the "WTL" at the bottom of the speedometer is upright, you are on the right track.
In addition to the number cards, there are the following Special Cards: Overtake, Your Speed, U-Turn, Police Officer, Gear Shift, and Gas Station.
You decide whether you want to stay behind the vehicle or overtake, so either +1 or +11.
Current score below 76:
This card sets the score to 76.
Current score at 76 or above:
This card also sets the score to 76.
The direction of play changes and remains so (at least until the next U-Turn card is played). The score remains unchanged.
The score remains unchanged. The officer just wanted to make sure you weren't over the limit yet.
You either shift up or down and decide whether the score is increased or reduced. To do this, select +10 or -10.
The player who plays the card can decide how many sips everyone has to drink - including themselves. The number of sips on this card is not added to the current score.
The current score does not have to be announced aloud with this card. This is the only exception to the counting rule. Can be used as a wild card if you don't know the score. However, the next player must know the current score. Otherwise, there will be 3 penalty sips.
Repdigits (11, 22, 33, ... 99):
The player distributes the last digit as sips. Example: Score 52 + Card 3 = 55. The player may distribute 5 sips to friends.
Even Tens (10, 20, 30, ... 90):
The player drinks the first digit as sips themselves. Example: Score 36 + Card 4 = 40. The player must drink 4 sips themselves. So pay attention and don't make your own life difficult.
Counting Aloud:
The score must be announced aloud. Anyone who miscalculates or forgets to count aloud must drink 3 penalty sips. The only exception: Special Card Gas Stat
Round begins with 5 players in this example. Score at the beginning is 0.
Player A plays number card 6 → Score: 6
Player B plays Overtake card, chooses +11 → Score: 17
Player C plays number card 4 → Score: 21
Player D plays Police card, score remains the same → Score: 21
Player E plays Gear Shift card, chooses -10 → Score: 11 — Attention: double digits! Player E may distribute 1 drink as they wish
The game continues until the score of 100 is reached or exceeded.
After each turn: count out loud (otherwise 3 penalty sips) and immediately draw back to 4 cards (otherwise 1 penalty sip).
